What is cauliflower ear?

Cauliflower ear is the result of a blood clot (auricular hematoma) caused by a hard impact to the ear. The impact causes the skin to separate from the cartilage giving the ear its shape, and the gap swells up with blood. If left untreated, the blood will thicken and new fibrous tissue will begin to form. After just 7-10 days, the auricular hematoma will harden into a permanently swollen shape resembling a cauliflower or potato.

Who can use Earies?

Anyone who runs the risk of getting cauliflower ear can use Earies to help prevent and treat it. Our customers come from a wide variety of backgrounds, including Brazilian jiu-jitsu (BJJ), mixed martial arts (MMA), wrestling, boxing, kickboxing, rugby, water polo, and lacrosse.

How long do I need to keep my Earies on to prevent cauliflower ear?

At least a week after draining. If you can’t take a break from training, wear them underneath your headgear. The additional blood flow from strenuous activity can cause them to swell up again, even if they’re not being directly rubbed.

How large are Earies?

Earies' compression rounds are 3/4" (18mm) in diameter by 1/4" (6mm) thick. The total length, including strap, is 2.5" (63mm).

Where can I buy syringes?

We highly recommend visiting a professional nurse or ENT to drain your ear.

Most national pharmacies carry syringes that can be purchased over the counter without a prescription. Legal restrictions prohibit us from selling them online.

As of 2019, Delaware, Tennessee, the US Virgin Islands, and Miami-Dade, Monroe, and Broward Counties in Florida require a prescription to purchase syringes.

What kind of syringe should I buy to drain my cauliflower ear?

We highly recommend visiting a professional nurse or ENT to drain your ear.

If that isn't an option, the blood clot can be drained at home using an insulin syringe (28-31 gauge) if it's fresh (within the first 1-3 days). If it’s been longer than that, use a larger, 20-26 gauge needle, because the blood becomes more viscous over time. A 1ml syringe size is sufficient for minor cases, but if it’s a large clot (greater than 1/2” in diameter), opt for a 3ml syringe.

What’s your return policy?

We stand by the quality of our product. If you’re not satisfied with Earies for any reason, contact us within 60 days for a full refund.

What makes you qualified to do this?

Nothing! We just enjoy BJJ and happen to design products for a living. The cauliflower ear prevention and treatment method outlined above is to be used at your own risk — if you’re unsure about sticking needles in your ear, go to a clinic!
